How They Found Me

Heyy 🤍 so nice to see you here!

I'm Alisa, a Netherlands-based ceramic artist

So the thing is that when I was a child, I genuinely believed that all my animal toys came to life at night (the moment my family should've suspect I'm on the spectrum) 🧸🌙

Anyway!! I was convinced that if I pretended to be asleep convincingly enough, I would finally catch them waking up — running, flying, going about their animal business

Years later, I still haven't caught them (I'm not giving up though)

So instead, I started creating my own creatures! 🪄

Every ceramic lamp I make is a character with its own personality, little quirks and tiny world. Some are brave, some are shy, and I think they all carry little pieces of me

Once the lamp is switched on, it feels a bit like that childhood dream coming true. The creature wakes up — and suddenly the room feels warmer, cozier and a little more magical

Do they actually come alive after dark?

You'll have to find out for yourself hehe ✨

How I Bring Them to Life

But first, someone has to make them

And every single step of that process is done by me, by hand

I sculpt every tiny paw, ear and tail. I paint every little detail, glaze each piece, carefully fire two times, wire every lamp, solder every electrical connection myself (because I want to know everything inside is as safe as it is pretty), assemble, photograph and, finally, carefully pack each creature before it leaves my studio 🧚🏼

Some steps take hours, others take days

There are no assistants, no production line and no shortcuts. So by the time a piece leaves my studio, we've spent quite a few weeks together

How They Find You

I love knowing that something I made can quietly change the atmosphere of a room with a warm glow and a little reminder that growing up doesn't have to mean letting go of imagination

Some people buy them for their children's rooms. Others buy them for themselves. Personally… I think adults need nightlights (aka dream protectors) just as much as kids do (maybe even more, adult nightmares are quite scarier)

One of my favorite moments at art fairs is watching kids run straight to my stand and immediately start convincing their parents they absolutely need to take a creature home (sorry, parents 🫶🏻🥹)

That's when I know I've reached my target audience, officially approved by the toughest art critics there are

Thank you so much for stopping by my little corner of the internet

I'm really happy you're here ✨🤍
